Helping Early Readers

Tuesday morning Story Hour is great - but wouldn't it be wonderful if you could have a "story hour" every day of the week?

Now you can - through the NY State Library's "Ready to Read" initiative. All you need is a computer - or you could even use the public access computer down at the library. All you need to do is click on the purple button over at the right (it looks like this)

http://daybydayny.org/

OR, if you're not on our blog, type in "daybydayny.org" into your browser and it will take you right  to the website. Day by Day is a "literacy calendar" designed to help young children develop a love for books and learning that will last a lifetime. It uses multimedia to enhance books, songs, and family health and bring these components to life.
It's called a calendar because each day there's something different. When you visit the site you'll find a story (provided by One More Story)  - an e-book that includes original music and sound effects, produced by former Sesame Street Music Director, Robby Merkin. The cool thing: you don’t need an ebook reader – you can just click on it and read along on a computer.
There's also an activity or two - storytelling, rhymes for young children, a short nature video - and an "explore more" section that includes age-appropriate craft activities.
