An Old-fashioned Thanksgiving, by Louisa May Alcott~ this longer illustrated book shows the activities of children in 1800s New England as they prepare for Thanksgiving holiday. Mother's away and caring for Grandmother, so the children are left to bake pies and everything else on their own.
The Very First Thanksgiving Day, by Rhonda Gowler Greene ~ using the "house that Jack built" structure, Rhonda tells the story of the first Thanksgiving. "This is the food, gathered and blessed/ the corn and sweet berries, the wild turkey dressed." The text goes back in time and recounts how the Pilgrims arrived in the New World, made homes for themselves, and farmed the land. It also includes a recurring phrase about the "Indians skillful and strong / who know how to live through the winter so long." (review from Booklist)
